Portland Pilots rout Oregon Ducks in women’s basketball

Must read

The Portland Pilots jumped out to a hot start and went on to rout the Oregon Ducks 91-60 in a women’s basketball matchup Thursday night at the Chiles Center.

It marked the Pilots’ first win over a Pac-12 opponent since 2013 and their biggest margin of victory ever against a Pac-12 foe.

Maisie Burnham and Dyani Ananiev paced the Pilots with 15 points apiece. Kennedy Dickie (11 points, nine rebounds) and Lucy Cochrane (10 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, five blocks) each had strong games as well, even though Cochrane shot just 4 of 15 from the field.

Portland shot 45.5% overall and did significant damage from beyond the arc by hitting 11 of 27 three-pointers (40.7%).

The Pilots (4-4) capitalized on a couple of big runs in the first half to take a commanding 46-18 lead into halftime. The second half was much more even, but the Ducks (4-2) never mounted a sustained rally.

Grace VanSlooten led Oregon with 15 points and 16 rebounds, but Oregon struggled to find its shooting touch, making just 35.7% from the field.

Next up: Portland vs. Montana State, 5 p.m. Saturday (ESPN+). Oregon at Baylor, 11 a.m. Sunday (FS1).
