Must read

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The Ole Miss men’s golf team bounced back from its first round and improved four spots on the leaderboards with a 274 (-14) second round. The Rebels now are in 9th place at 559 (-17) overall and look to the final round to continue their climb during their time in Puerto Rico.

The par 5s have been the name of the game for the Rebels as they currently rank third in par 5 scoring (-21). Overall throughout Round Two, Ole Miss is tied for the third lowest round of the day out of the 15-team field.

“Definitely a better day out there for our group,” said head coach Chris Malloy. “We looked a lot more like the group that I saw in the fall. We still have some work to do to continue to climb up the leaderboard and finish this tournament strong.”

The two biggest contributors to Ole Miss’ 274 second round were Rebels Michael La Sasso and Tim Tillmanns who both went low for a 66 (-6) round. La Sasso made a whopping seven birdies throughout his round including two pairs of back-to-back birdies to rise him up the leaderboard. The sophomore leads for Ole Miss tied for 10th at 8-under overall.

Tillmanns was hot throughout the entirety of his round, going bogey-free for all 18 holes. The senior’s second round was highlighted by four consecutive birdies in a row from Holes 2-5. His Round Two score rose him 43 spots on the leaderboard where he’s tied for 35th at 4-under overall.

Tied with Tillmanns is Tom Fischer, who secured a 70 (-2) second round. Fischer played overall steady golf throughout the day and went bogey-free for 11 consecutive holes. Fischer made three birdies and looks to the final round to continue improving his 4-under overall score.

Patton Samuels made five birdies through Round Two but remained even on the day. The sophomore is tied for 66th at 1-over overall.

Cameron Tankersley and individual Collins Trolio rounded out scoring for Ole Miss. Both Rebels shot 76 (+4) on the day.

Ole Miss will look to continue its climb up the leaderboard in the final round on Tuesday morning where it will tee off at 5:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. The Rebels will be paired with Iowa and Virginia for the final round.
